%X The watershed management can be defined as the process of organization and direction of land use and other natural resources in order to produce assets and services without destroying or adversely affect soil and water. Among several remote sensing applications, land-use change detection enables better understanding of changes related to environmental impacts through monitoring. The objective of this paper is to present results of the dynamics of land use and occupation in the Teles Pires river basin, between the years 2003 to 2013/14. The digital processing techniques employed in the basin mapping process were obtaining the 2003 year of satellite images; processing of the obtained scenes, segmentation of images, editing and revision of polygons and classification of polygons according to vegetation cover. For the year 2013/14 the data were obtained from TerraClass project, for comparison with the year 2003. The results show a decrease of 10% in the natural area in the basin, going from 70% in 2003 to 60% in 2013/14. This demonstrates the need for efficient planning for the basin, mainly due to maintenance feature biodiversity and protection of water sources to ensure good water quality. The geoprocessing techniques were adequate to the proposed objective, enabling a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the study area.
